The Royal Commission is presently gathering responses on the possibility
of a national mandatory compensation scheme for victims of child sexual
abuse. Hopefully there will some clarity around this matter when the Royal
Commission presents its interim report which was due at the end of this
month but has been put back several months. As a general principle
Australian Baptist Ministries would be committed to support such a
proposal. At this stage without any clarity about the details of such a
scheme we would obviously want to be sure it provides justice and equity
for the victims of child sexual abuse.

Child abuse victim’s faltering testimony silences the lawyers
The overwhelming response to details of victim’s ordeal made a mockery of church’s hardball tactics at royal commission
At the funeral ceremony of Ron Bowie (step-father), I had an encounter with Don Marriott after the Celebration Ceremony. During a conversation I had been awaiting – comments & queries including: “paedophiles”, “child sex abuse”, “Royal Commission”, “church elders” & a description of 1st & `2nd SDBC Friday nights, was had with Don Marriott. Responses ranged from: Denial, Refusal to provide further info, Shadowing behind a “in-the-name-of-god” – many of which are common in current statements of church leaders & RC Hearings.
Earlier today (Tue 11 Jun 13), a copy of Building cert. was ordered from BCC’s Building Dept. As 10 days was listed as maximum period until delivery. Once this timeline has been identified, more accurate details can be made in RC Report and/or Police Investigation.
